  • Can SARIÇİÇEK, LL.M./MBL, is a lawyer and a highly qualified competition law professional. Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK has worked for the Turkish Competition Authority for 15 years. For the past 3 years before she left the authority, she served as the Deputy Head of Department in the division specializing in digital markets. During her tenure at the Turkish Competition Authority, Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK was engaged in numerous remarkable investigations, mergers and acquisitions, exemption/negative clearance assessments, commitment and settlement proceedings, and market investigations, mainly in digital markets, as well as in a wide range of sectors including telecoms, media, advertising, health, finance, banking, tourism, construction materials, transportation, and automotive.

    Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK also took an active role within the teams preparing and updating secondary legislation, the most important ones being the Merger Regulation and the Block Exemption Communiqué on Vertical Agreements in the Motor Vehicles Sector and its relevant guidelines. As the Deputy Head of Department, she took a leading role in the E-marketplaces Sector Inquiry. She led the team that designed and prepared the draft amendment to the Turkish Competition Act to provide alignment with the Digital Markets Act. She also presented the draft amendment to the Ministry of Trade and to other stakeholders and participated in parliamentary preparational proceedings.

    Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK also represented Turkey at the OECD, UNCTAD, the EU Commission, and other international organizations and presented contributions. By special invitation of the OECD, she presented the E-marketplaces Sector Inquiry Report in a special session. Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK has a master’s degree in business law from the Freie Universität Berlin. Mrs. SARIÇİÇEK is fluent in English.
